i feel really political things when it comes to nails, as i’ve mentioned in my recent posts. 2026 was for prada nails. 2026 came, and surprisingly, it’s the first time in… a decade that i haven’t painted my nails. i’m going through something… it’s been a bit weird…


banana mai tai recipe:

• 1 oz light rum

• 1 oz dark rum

• 0.5 oz banana liqueur

• 0.5 oz orange curaçao

• 0.5 oz lime juice

• 0.25 oz orgeat syrup

• ice

• garnish: lime wheel and mint sprig

instructions:

1. fill a shaker with ice.

2. add light rum, dark rum, banana liqueur, orange curaçao, lime juice, and orgeat syrup.

3. shake well and strain into a glass filled with crushed ice.

4. garnish with lime wheel and mint.


suddenly, i looked down, just like the day before when i went for a miu miu matcha. and the only colors i see are the ones in my drinks.

seeing things through empty nails.

this morning, i ran to the columbia flower market really early. when i run alone, a lot of bad thoughts, discouraging thoughts like “i can’t run anymore” come through my mind. this morning i noticed a door i’d never seen before, a sink i now want, and a plant called cycling man, funny i thought.

i’ve been enjoying the banana mai tais, that door, and the yellow flowers. they remind me of carnival, madeleine’s banana bread, rachel’s chocolates, and my tea mug. but it’s still not enough for me to paint my nails yellow.

and there’s more: my flatmate nahui cooks better than café cecilia. we have their recipe book: a shade of green i once loved at 15, but now i can’t stand it. nahui is obsessed with both trout and nails, so dinners at our place are quite entertaining. on the menu: asparagus, greek salad, trout, and pumpkin spice tea.

i’ve been enjoying clear nails and loving café cecilia even more, which probably draws me into that “clean girl” aesthetic i tried to avoid. but oh well, winter has been full of color in its own way.
