what bodies of water wear
2020s are for the cheirosas

cult classic bum bum cream, sol de janeiro’s hero product and scent. what victoria’s secret could have done with their fragrance line: a celebratory cellulite smell. not a fan of sweet perfumes, but like most smellmaxers, a fan of everything sol de janeiro: all the cheirosas, the creams, and their marketing strategy. their latest rosa charmosa dewy cream is a great comeback to their focus on body care and a clear sign that dewy is what matte was 10 years ago.
the brand started around that time in rio, but with american origins, and it doesn’t really sell in brazil. on perfumetok there are lots of comparisons with o boticário, a body care brand that has been around for decades.
i went there to smell it. quinoa, figo, ameixa negra. the sweetness reminded me of victoria’s secret’s prime era. i liked lily, but couldn’t really compare it to sol de janeiro. the thing about sol de janeiro isn’t really the smells.

o boticário seems to be brazilians’ affective smell, something that is truly used. i do see lots of hand soaps from them around. sol de janeiro is not niche in any way, but it’s not a memory brand. it’s a sign of smellmaxing, the perfume era we are living in. sol de janeiro is the 2020s kylies lip kit.
and because everyone has been speeking about layering fragrances, i have always thought of extrato carrapato, a popular natural aphrodisiac sold in brazil, as a perfect blend with cheirosa 68 beija-flor.

I find 71 to be the most stupidly pleasing scent in the world right now—it’s basically addictive to me. At first, it smelled too buttery and like popcorn but for some reason, I still was intrigued enough to buy the smaller size. I usually hate buttery popcorn scents so it was weird that I bought it.
Now, I can’t even smell the weird popcorn scent. It just smells like perfectly warm, decadent cookies.
